A team which met the daily needs of its student
clients very effectively wanted to offer new services which would
help their clients develop skills valuable long after
college. I worked with the management team to design an offsite
meeting
to
develop
their
vision
and strategic
plan,
intended
to
serve as the basis for action planning for the next few years.
Because
our offsite time was limited, we made significant use of wall-size
graphics to draw out each person's creativity and full involvement.
The offsite was successful in generating a powerful, engaging vision
for their future, which also led easily and naturally to strategic
and action planning. When the group convened a year later to review
progress and plan actions for the following year, they were surprised
at how much they had accomplished that year, using the vision and
action plan as a consistent guideline for their decisions and actions.
They were also surprised and pleased to see that they had significantly
surpassed several major goals.
